On Saturday, December 22, 2007—the night of the Winter Solstice—I climbed into the truck with Daniel, Keith, Trent, Larry, and Berni to go to Santa Fe. We saw a very beautiful ice sculpture of Santa in his sleigh with the reindeer. We took the back way home so we could see the “Christmas town of New Mexico,” Madrid. It was a very quaint town with lots of adornment and fiery barrels along the roadside. They even had a horse drawn stagecoach giving rides. When we left Madrid, an owl flew right into our truck. All we could see was a few feathers sticking up from the grill, so when we could safely pull over we stopped. What we saw was unbelievable…instead of a few feathers, it was both full wings. Daniel put on some gloves, and when he pulled the bird out it started to flap and was still ALIVE!!! It stood about 2 feet tall on the ground and was dazed, but fine. It appeared to have working wings and there was no blood. Amazing! Enjoy the photos.
